A high GMAT score can make your application highly
competitive or at least not being eliminated in the first
review. Then, what is a high GMAT score? Again, it varies from
school to school. A score of 700 is considered high for a
second-tier program, such as Penn State University, but is just
the average for Stern MBA program at New York University.
However, it is not wise if you rely solely on your GMAT scores
to determine where to apply, or where no to apply. GMAT scores
are as only one of several factors of your performance.
Our advice is that you choose MBA program based on your
interest (or so-called fit), not your GMAT score. We have a
client who obtained a score of 620 and admitted by MIT Sloan MBA
program and the other one who scored 760 but was denied by the
Olin School at Washing University at Stain Louis. In this
regard, a good GMAT score means nothing but your confidence. If
you did not get a high score, do not give up. If you have no
time to retake the test, just focus on the application itself,
including MBA essays, resume, and interview if granted (all of
them were addressed in detail on this site)
If you plan to retry, allow 2 or 3 months to prepare before
retaking the exam. The school will consider the most recent
three scores. |
